I have to admit I didn't see this one coming, but the more I thought about it the more AMAZING the idea became. One of the newest wedding trends is actually forgoing the hustle and bustle of having friends in the ceremony, and actually letting them attend (wearing whatever the heck they want) with no responsibilities.
Say GOODBYE to the wedding party!
Now before I begin, this is in no way a knock-down to people who LOVE the idea of having a bridal party, it's simply another way of looking at weddings. They've been changing drastically as of late, and a lot of it has to do with the individualistic nature of so many couples these days. They're paying for things themselves.
Here's some perks for couples who choose to ditch the age-old tradition:
1. All of your friends are on a level playing field.
It can be a source of tension when one or a few friends are left out of the wedding party (this actually happened even at my own wedding!). Suddenly one individual in your group of friends doesn't make the cut - and I can't even imagine how that feels. By opting out of the elite squad, all of your friends are guests, and are equally invited as loved, adored, and welcomed guests without the awkward tension.
2. You don't have to make that choice.
In addition to your friends being on a level field, you now don't have to be the person to make that choice. You don't have to be the bad guy. You don't have to pick people because you were in their wedding party, or their siblings, or somebody is pressuring you. You avoid that stress completely - and who wants stress?
3. You're not asking the monetary investment of them.
According to this wedding wire study, the average cost of being a bridesmaid can rise well over $1000. WHAT. THE. HECK. Obviously there are ways to minimize these costs for your friends, but it's definitely an act of kindness for them to agree to hang out with the elite squad on your wedding day for such a steep cost.
4. Skip the rehearsal dinner - and the lineup stress.
With nobody walking down the aisle but you and your favorite human, there's nothing to practice. No stress about who's standing where. No friends panicking when they can't remember whose butt is supposed to be in front of them. Go out the night before and have a drink instead - you've earned it.
Maybe take it one step further and choose to just elope (wink wink). How do you feel about ditching your wedding party? Leave your thoughts below!
